A New Leaf

I’ve been carefully watching this limb on a pecan tree in our yard since an ice storm cause the limb to break a few years ago. Thankfully it’s been supported by lower limbs or it probably would’ve come crashing to the ground.

I’m always excited to see new leaves and new growth springing forth.

The low temperatures we had over the past winter have killed a few plants and we’re watching others for signs of growth as well. They were definitely stunted by the latest round of cold temperatures just as they were putting on new growth.

My devotional this morning reminded my that our dreams can be like these plants. They can damaged or severely stunted by personal loss or less than ideal conditions in the economy.

Living with discouragement or defeat will kill the dreams of many.

It’s hard for some to anticipate growth or victory when they’ve been knocked down to the ground.

One of the plants I have been closely surveying is a sasanqua camellia that started from a seed in my parents’ yard many years ago. I really thought that we were going to have to cut it down and let one of the younger seedlings under it take its place. But today I was elated to see leaves sprouting from one of the limbs. It’s not pretty right now, but it’s not dead!

And neither are your dreams.

Don’t give up on the dreams that God has placed in your heart. Don’t believe the nay-sayers that say you’re too old to start working toward fulfilling that dream, turning over a new leaf, starting a new profession or business.

God not only gives dreams, He resurrects them! It’s not too late to go for it.

Take a look at those lower limbs again supporting the broken limb. Surround yourself with people who will support and encourage you as you grow.
