Things have changed in the last year and I’m determined to come out of this situation better than I was when I went into it.
Here are my Tips…
Tip 1: Eat Well
I’m always working on controlling my sweet tooth and getting better foods into my body because I believe you become what you eat !! So I’m adding in lots of colorful vegetables including leafy greens, lean protein, healthy fats, fiber and collagen, which improves elasticity in your tissues, heart, veins, and skin! Luckily lots of these foods are all in the same groups. These foods are like fertilizer for your body … BTW, I’m adding collagen in my coffee and smoothies for an extra boost!
Tip 2: Exercise/ Work Out
When I wasn’t able to go to the gym I started looking for Barre classes/workouts on Youtube and found Fit by Laurie. She is really good ~ all I need is a chair and sometimes, light weights. If she’s not your type, look for others. The biggest thing is to spend at least 20-30 minutes of exercise that will increase circulation, elevate your heart rate, build muscle, and challenge your balance.
Tip 3: Sleep Well
Try for Seven – eight hours. (Six hours is the VERY Minimum!!) I know it’s hard (especially if you’re a night-owl, like me) but remember that your body repairs and renews itself at night. Skipping out on sleep is going to adversely affect your health and appearance.
Tip 4: Sunscreen Daily
Protecting your skin, which is your body’s largest organ is important to your health and looks. It’s the # 1 step to take in slowing down the skin’s aging process. Stay out of the sun as much as possible !
Tip 5: Exfoliate 2-3 times per week
As you age, your cell production slows. Dead skin cells clog pores, contribute to breakouts, lead to hair loss and calluses. Regular exfoliation evens skin tone, increases cell turnover, improves skin texture, stimulates collagen, and helps your skincare products work better… You’re really wasting your lotions & creams putting them on your “cornflakes.” (Our Microdermabrasion Paste is a great exfoliating scrub for total body exfoliation. Be gentle with sensitive skin though.)
Tip 6: Add Products with Vitamin A & Derivatives ! Products with vitamin A like RetinA, Retinol and RetinAl reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, elasticity and firmness. Retinoids work by increasing collagen production as well as the rate of skin cell turnover. They also help treat acne, blackheads, and clogged pores. They are great for improving texture, evening skin tone, and decreasing pore size. RetinA has harsh side effects like flaking, dryness, and increased sensitivity to the sun…so we recommend using them at mostly at night, using sunscreen and incorporating Retinol or RetinAl which are gentler and more easily tolerated by most.
Redefine Intensive Renewing Serum contains RetinAl buffered with calcium to make it gentler and Reverse Dual Active Brightening Complex contains Retinol. Patch test for use on your face, neck and hands if you have sensitivities.
Tip 7: Add Products with Hyaluronic Acid
This acid naturally occurs in your skin and draws moisture to your skin. But, of course, decreases over time, leaving your skin less plump, hydrated, and looking crepey. Products with hyaluronic acid promote healthier, more supple skin. It plumps fine lines, makes skin more dewey and younger-looking. It’s very gentle so it benefits all skin types. (Eating lots of fruit and veggies with antioxidants protect the skin from inflammation and help retain HA too!)
Active Hydration Serum, Body Replenish and Bright Eye Complex contain HA.
Tip 8: Eyes
The skin around your eyes is very thin and often the first to react to bad habits like poor diet, too much salt, poor sleep, squinting, sun exposure, rubbing, blue light exposure from screen time. Wear sunglasses to reduce your sun exposure and risk of cataracts !
Address these habits and add products that firm the eye area, reduce inflammation, control puffiness, and dark circles. Redefine Multi-function Eye Cream which firm and lift eye lids, as well as treat dark circles. Bright Eye Complex controls eye puffiness and dark circles too. These are two of My MUST-HAVES !
Tip 9: Treat Your Face, Neck, Chest and Hands
Use effective skincare products on your face, extending them to your neck, chest and hands… They will all eventually show signs of sun damage and aging. An Ounce of Prevention is Worth A POUND OF CURE !
Tip 10: Use a Tinted Skincare Product and Breakup with Foundation
Many women have opted out of wearing makeup, especially if they’re spending more time at home. Have you noticed that more products and foundation can make you look older? Yes, the more you use the older you can look. Using a tinted moisturizer skincare product that provides good coverage is an ideal replacement and can actually improve your skin too. I use Mineral Peptide Powder ( spf 25) and Radiant Defense (spf 30) on days when I feel like it a ” no makeup” makeup look, contouring with different shades.
But if I don’t feel like makeup I don’t wear it. If you take care of yourself, you can learn to feel comfortable in your skin. It’s so freeing !
