It’s Healthy Aging month … Are you happy with how you’re aging?🤔
Are you like me?Â
I can get a lot done when everyone else goes to bed. I was up a little later than usual last night to get something done that I’d been putting off for a few days and I was ready to get it off my list. 😬
I did get 7+ hours, which is my minimum goal every night.
My friend, Dr. Lisa Anton, shared this info:
Did you know that getting your sleeping habits under control impacts everything in your body down to the cellular level?
Health, fitness, composition, hormones, stress levels, mood, appetite, ability to concentrate, immune system and aging.
Lack of sleep is correlated with dementia, Alzheimer’s, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Researchers discovered that while we sleep CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) washes in and out of our brain helping to get rid of metabolic “trash” that accumulates during the day.
Another, large study linked too little sleep to increased risk of obesity in 89% of children and 55% of adults
8 tips to improve your sleep NATURALLY:
1. Get sunlight daily, but avoid blue light ( TV, computers, devices) at night ~
Wear Blue Light Readers when using an electronic device even during the day.
2. Avoid caffeine after your morning cup if you can, especially if you know that it interferes with your sleep.
3. Wake up and go to bed at the same time every day/night. Nap no longer than 15-20 min a day
4. Alcohol can interfere with sleep hormones and it linked to sleep apnea.
5. Optimize your bedroom for sleep- quiet, dark, comfy, cool.
6. Avoid eating a few hours before bed because it can disrupt your hormones.
7. Get your exercise in daily except not too close to bedtime.
8. Wind down before going to bed with a warm(not hot) bath or shower, a book or quiet music.
Skin Benefits with 7-9 hours sleep:
*Fewer wrinkles- Your skin (& all cells) repair at night*
Glowing complexion – Blood flow increases to your skin when you sleep
*Brighter, less puffy eyes*
Healthier, fuller hair- during sleep, increased blood flow to hair follicles giving nutrients , vitamins and minerals
*Happier/ healthier appearance- When you don’t sleep, you may experience subtle mouth droop and red, swollen eyes, dark circles and paler skin
* Your Skincare works better- Blood flow increases that allow your skincare ingredients to work.
Skin also loses more water at night than it does during the day 😲
Creams are better to moisturize at night vs lotions (unless you’re prone to breakouts).
Our skin changes as we age and as the weather changes, so we need to up our skincare game.
