Downheel from There…

When August rolls around I can’t help but think about the funniest first day of school ever!!
When we cleaned out Mom’s house, I picked out several pairs of her shoes… she always loved shoes and so do I! JT rolled his eyes when I came in with a “few” pairs because I have tons! (Mom had 85 pairs and he says I do too😅)
I never wore new shoes to school because I was on my feet all day and had to have well-worn shoes for comfort.
So, the night before the first day, I picked out my clothes and chose to wear some cute, comfy sandals of hers.
I arrived early and went into my classroom. I was busy getting everything ready for the children’s arrival.

I was quickly moving around they room but I started noticing pieces of something strange on the floor.

I was so busy I didn’t realize what was happening. I picked them up and quickly threw them away wondering what they were and then I saw more of them … but the children started to come into the room. I helped them find their desks and get settled in.

I was so pre-occupied with what I was doing that I didn’t notice the heels of my shoes were falling apart… little pieces of rubber littered the room!
It was all down “heel” from there. 😆

I quickly called my husband and explained what was happening. I asked him to bring me a pair of shoes. I’m sure he rolled his eyes again!🙄

Now if you’ve every been to school on the first day you have an idea what he walked into but he had never seen anything like the three-ring circus it was! He dutifully brought the shoes to my room and exited the building as quickly as possible!

Teaching Kindergarten in August has been compared to herding kittens.😅

I can laugh now but, at the time, August was stressful! I was in survival mode all month until Labor Day and the stress was quickly aging me.😥

That’s what led me to R+F ~ I needed to get that “teacher-look” off my face! 🤩

Fast Forward 🔟 years:
Because I control my calendar,
I can enjoy August.

We can actually celebrate Jt’s birthday without having to scrutinize my schedule to find the time to do so.

Everyone needs an exit strategy. Do you have one?
If you need one, drop the word “exit” below. 🔽
