My Health & Wellness Journey

The topic of aging comes up pretty regularly among friends when you get over 40… you know aches, pains, hormones, surgeries, etc.

It comes up more frequently when you move into your 50s & 60s (and beyond, I’m sure)! Aging is tough for the faint of heart.

Friends comment that the “Golden Years” aren’t what they’re cracked up to be & if you watch TV, the commercials of stereotypical retirees are downright comical…

Here’s the reality:

As you age, you have to be intentional and proactive about being healthy & staying active.

You have to eat healthier, exercise regularly & do things to challenge your body so you can maintain your joints, bones & muscles.

When I hit 45 I got really serious about my health.

My mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer that year. It was a wake-up call.

As you age, your cancer risk increases. Those who exercise lessen their risk for 13 specific types of cancer.

I’d walked & done aerobics (cardio) for years but when I hit 50 I started teaching in Louisville & joined the gym to work on muscle strength.

I got a wild-hair a few months ago to start trying to do pull-ups, something I’ve never done.

I’m sure the guys get a laugh out if seeing me try this but a couple have given me advice on how to work on it!👏👏👏👏

Monday I tried these pull-up assistance bands.

Monday night I could tell that I’d worked different muscles. 😉

Tuesday I woke up with soreness in my lower back.

The grandkids were coming that morning!

Instead of reaching for the Back & Body pain pills, I reached for these pain patches. (Think about it: We’ve been conditioned to take a pill first! 😢)

I got JT to help me pinpoint where I could apply the patches to get the most relief. It was better in about 5 minutes.

Then I got on the floor & used my homemade deep tissue massage roller to loosen up.

By 11:00, I had no pain or stiffness.

That night, I picked Maddox (abt 30 pounds) up several times with no issues.

The next day I was back at barre class.

I’ve been patching for 8 weeks now and my joints feel good, my recovery time is much quicker after working out & these pain patches saved my day.
